Accessibility

What we have built into this site so it works for everyone — and how to tell us when it does not.

In plain English

  • We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA throughout.
  • Everything works by keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring.
  • All animation stops for anyone who asks their system for reduced motion.
  • If you meet a barrier, tell us and we treat it as a bug, not a request.

Our commitment

This is a book about health. It would be a poor showing if the website itself were hard to use. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA and treat any shortfall as a bug rather than a nice-to-have.

What we have done

  • Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring.
  • Menus, drawers and dialogs trap focus while open and return it when closed.
  • Colour contrast meets AA for body text and interface text.
  • All meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative artwork is hidden from assistive technology.
  • Text resizes to 200% without loss of content or function, and the layout reflows down to 320px.
  • Animation is suppressed entirely for anyone whose system requests reduced motion.
  • Live regions announce search results, cart changes and form outcomes.
  • Chapter illustrations can be enlarged, and each carries a written caption describing what it shows.

Known limitations

Some embedded third-party content — payment provider frames and social video embeds — is outside our direct control. We choose providers with accessibility support where we can.
